Creating and Scheduling Report Sets

 

Report Sets can be automated using the Windows Task Scheduler.

First Create a Report Set

1. Select Edit \ Report Sets.
2. Click New and give the Report Set a brief but descriptive name – something like “WeeklyReport”. Note: Spaces and special characters are not allowed.
3. You can include Graphs in the Graphs tab OR Power Analytics in the Scripts tab (not both).
   1. In the Graphs tab, check off the graphs you’d like in your reports.
      or
   2. In the Scripts tab, check off the scripts/reports you’d like.
4. Set up the Graph Selection Parameters and Preselect Systems tabs as you see fit. If you want to schedule these reports, you will need to specify which system(s) you want in Preselect Systems.
5. In the Parameters tab, you can set things like a time frame and where to save the reports. We often suggest people save their report sets to a shared drive, so everyone at the company has easy access to them. We also suggest that, especially if you’re running scripts (step 4), to keep the output File Type as JPG. Because of how the scripts are set up, the .HTML option doesn’t generate output for scripts.
6. Click Save and then click OK.

Next Create the Task in the Windows Task Scheduler

1. In the General tab, give it a name and description and configure further as desired.
2. In the Trigger tab, click New… and choose when the task runs. Choosing On a schedule is a good option (you can choose weekly).

3. In the Actions tab, click New… and browse to:

   C:\Program Files (x86)\Midrange Performance Group\Performance Navigator 19\PerfNav.exe

4. In Add Arguments type save WeeklyReport (use whatever name you chose for your Report Set in #2 of the Report Set directions).

5. Configure the other tabs as you see fit and save the task.

Once you’ve got the report set up in the Task Scheduler, it’s a good idea to go to the Task Scheduler Library, find your task, right click and choose “Run”, so you can test it and make sure it works as you expect (there will be a “Power Analytics” folder created in the output directory you specified).

Also, keep in mind that if you do not have the password saved for your system in Performance Navigator, this task will prompt you for that password and just sit there until it is entered.
