Decreasing Apply Lag Time in Robot HA

 

If you've identified a library that has a long apply lag time, removing standby journals will help resolve the apply lag time and improve product performance. Standby journals, which often take up a fair amount of overhead, are kept on the backup system to speed up the role swap process should your system go down. You can remove them; the role swap process recreates standby journals as needed.

Step 1: Change the sync attributes

Before you can remove the standby journals from your library, you must change the sync attributes to prevent the library or IFS directory from creating more standby journals. To do this, use the following steps:

1. On the production system, select option 1 from the Robot HA Main Menu to display the Work With Synchronization Attributes panel.

2. Type option 2 beside the entry for the library or IFS directory that has a long apply lag time, then press Enter.

3. Page down. Look for the parameter Create standby journal and change it to *NO.

4. Press Enter to save your changes.

When you're finished, press F3 until you've returned to the Robot HA Main Menu.

Step 2: Remove the standby journals

Once the sync attributes are updated on the production system, the standby journals must be removed from the backup system only. To do this, use the following steps:

1. On the Robot HA Main Menu, press F21 to display the command line.

2. Execute the following command, then press F4 to prompt:

   DLTJRNRSF

3. Specify these choices for the following parameters, then press Enter.

   Journal:xxxxxx (with xxxxxx being the name of the file, library, or IFS directory that has the apply lag)

   Library: JRNLIB(check to make sure this is the correct library name before proceeding)

   End journaling: *YES

   Server ID: *LOCAL
