Problem:

How to migrate Showcase queries prior to version 7.0 to Showcase version 9.x or higher.

Solution:

In order to migrate Showcase queries prior to version 7.0, to Showcase version 9.x you will need to copy the select statement from each query,  save it into a text file and then paste the select statement into a new query using Showcase version 9.x.

The following steps will guide you through on copying the select in existing queries, to creating a new query using the select statement in ShowCase version 9.x

Obtain the SELECT Statement from a pre-version 7.0 ShowCase Query:
NOTE: Depending on what Showcase Query version is installed onto the PC, there are two (2) ways to obtain the select statement.

OPTION 1:
A.    Open Showcase Query, and open | run the existing query.
B.    From the menu bar, select Query | SELECT statement
C.    The SELECT statement dialog box appears, and the select statement will be highlighted in the lower section of dialog box.
D.    While highlighted, copy the select by pressing the keys Ctrl and C or right click and select copy.
E.    Open a Text Editor (such as Notepad) and paste the select statement.
F.    Save the text file with the name of the query.

OPTION 2:
A.    Open showcase Query, and open | run the existing query.
B.    From the menu bar. Select File | Properties
C.    The Query Properties dialog box appears, now select the Select Tab.
D.    You will now see the select statement and it will be highlighted.
E.    While highlighted, copy the select by pressing the keys Ctrl and C or right click and select copy.
F.    Open a Text Editor (such as Notepad) and paste the select statement.
G.    Save the text file with the name of the query.

Create a ShowCase 9.x Query Using an Existing SELECT Statement:
A.    On a PC where ShowCase version 9.x is installed, Open ShowCase query.
B.    From the menu bar, select File | New from SQL | Query
C.    You will be prompted to log into the data source to your ShowCase 9.x server.
D.    Then the SELECT Statement dialog box appears.
E.    This is where you will paste the select statement from Step 1 above.
F.    Then select Finish
G.    Now run the query by selecting from the menu bar Run | Run Query.
H.    After the query runs, you can save the query.
