Problem Statement:

Opening, saving and / or closing Excel workbooks containing Query references produces: "Error in SCDataworksheet!A6".

Solution:

Correct the formulas in the hidden ShowCase sheet inside the failing Excel workbook or delete the ShowCase sheet altogether.

PROCEDURE A: Correct the formulas in the hidden ShowCase sheet.

  1. Create a new Excel workbook and add a query and some columns. Use the same ShowCase version as the one that is causing problems.

  2. With this new Excel sheet open, display the hidden ShowCase sheet:
    1. Do ALT-F11 (to start the Visual Basic editor)
    2. Do CTRL-G to display the "immediate" window at the screen bottom if it's not already visible
    3. In the "immediate" window enter: and press Enter
    4. In the Excel workbook, the ShowCase sheet will now be unhidden

  3. Open the failing Excel workbook and display the hidden ShowCase sheet with the same procedure as in point 2.

  4. Copy the contents of the cell referenced in the error from the ShowCase sheet in the newly created workbook to the same cell in the ShowCase sheet in the failing workbook.

  5. Hide each ShowCase sheet again by selecting the appropriate Excel workbook, going to the Visual Basic editor, entering the following in the "immediate" window: and pressing Enter.

PROCEDURE B: Delete the ShowCase sheet from the Excel workbook

NOTE: this will remove all ShowCase queries and references and it will be impossible to refresh the ShowCase data afterwards.

  1. Open the failing Excel workbook, display the hidden ShowCase sheet:
    1.  Do ALT / F11 (to start the Visual Basic editor)
    2. Do CTRL / G to display the "immediate" window at the screen bottom if it's not already visible
    3. In the "immediate" window enter: and press Enter
    4. In the Excel workbook, the ShowCase sheet will now be unhidden

  2. Right-click the name of the ShowCase sheet and select "Delete"
