If your SMTP server does not allow mail relaying to prevent spammers from using the mail server, you can use the following settings to support secure SMTP with Email Report Server/400 and Enterprise Fax.
Prerequisites:
- Email Report Server/400 version 1.52 or above.
- To use separate email and fax authentication settings, Email Report Server/400 version 2.56 or above.
Enabling Email Report Server/400 Authentication
- To use AUTH PLAIN security to authenticate to the remote SMTP server, set ERSSECURE to *YES:
ERSSECURE OPTION(*SET) ENABLE(*YES)
- Use ERSUSER to enter the secure SMTP user ID and password:
ERSUSER OPTION(*SET) SMTPUSER(userid) SMTPPASS(password)
Note: Use a valid Windows Networking or Microsoft Exchange user ID and password. This ID and password may also be used with Microsoft Outlook Express.
You can now email documents with your Microsoft Exchange mail server using secure SMTP.
Enabling Enterprise Fax SMTP Authentication
Normally you do not need authenticated SMTP for an SMTP-based fax server, such as Castelle Faxpress or Faxback. However, if you want to enable authenticated SMTP for your fax server, do the following:
- To use AUTH PLAIN security to authenticate to the remote SMTP server, set FAXSECURE to *YES:
FAXSECURE OPTION(*SET) ENABLE(*YES)
- Use FAXUSER to enter the secure SMTP user ID and password:
FAXUSER OPTION(*SET) SMTPUSER(userid) SMTPPASS(password)
Note: Use a valid Windows Networking or Microsoft Exchange user ID and password. This ID and password may also be used with Microsoft Outlook Express.
You can now send faxes with your SMTP-based fax server.
