Setting Up Windows NT Print Driver

  1. Make sure the PC has a static IP address. A static IP address is an address that doesn't change.

    Note: Remember this address. You will need it when you configure the iSeries. 

  2. From the Windows NT Control Panel, choose Printers.
  3. To add a new printer driver, click Add Printer.
  4. In Printer Location, choose My Computer and click Next.
  5. Add a new port:
    1. When Available Port displays, click Add Port.
    2. Select Local Port.
    3. Click New Port.
    4. In Port Name, type C:\RJSAFP.PCL.
    5. Click OK.
    6. Click Close on the Printer Ports screen.
  6. Check the C:\RJSAFP.PCL port box and click Next.
  7. In the printer list, choose the HP Laserjet 4 printer driver and click Next.
  8. If you already have an HP Laserjet 4 driver on your PC, you may be asked if you want to keep or replace it. You can keep the existing driver and click Next.
  9. When you are asked for the printer name, type WinSpool AFP Converter and click Next.
  10. On the Shared Printer screen:
    1. Check Shared.
    2. In Share Name, type RJSEMAIL.
    3. Click Next.
  11. When you are asked to print a test page, choose Yes and click Finish.
  12. Check the C:\ directory to see if a file name C:\RJSAFP.PCL was created. If so, the driver installation was successful.

Installing Microsoft TCP/IP Printing Services for Windows NT

 
Note: Do not apply the Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 4.0 after installing TCP/IP printing services. If you do, you need to uninstall and reinstall the TCP/IP printing service.
  1. In the Windows NT Control Panel, choose Network.
  2. In Network, click the Services tab.
  3. Click Add and choose the Microsoft TCP/IP Printing option.
  4. If you are asked to, enter the Windows NT CD and reboot your PC.
  5. In the Windows NT Control Panel, choose Services.
  6. Click the TCP/IP Print Server service in the list to highlight it.
  7. Change the start-up type:
    1. Click Startup.
    2. In Startup Type, choose Automatic.
    3. Click OK.

      The TCP/IP print server will now start automatically each time you restart Windows NT.

  8. If the TCP/IP Print Server is not started, in Services, click Start.

Installing the MPI Blue Server Software on Windows NT

  1. Download the MPI Blue Server software from the MPI Tech website https://www.mpitech.com/mpitech.nsf/pages/index_en.html  or the MPITECH subdirectory of the RJS Software CD.
  2. Run the set-up process and install all of the following items:
    • MPI License
    • MPI Parser
    • MPI Router
    • MPI Drivers

Configuring MPI Blue Server Software for Windows NT

  1. Go to Start > Programs > MPI Blue Server > MPI Parser.
  2. Set up the server:
    1. From the menu, choose Session > Parser.
    2. In the server name, type in the Computer name in Control Panel > Network.
    3. Check Management.
    4. Click OK.
  3. Set up the printer:
    1. From the menu, choose Configuration > New.
    2. In Printer Configuration, type RJSEMAIL.
    3. Click OK.
    4. In the Unloaded configurations list, highlight the RJSEMAIL printer.
    5. Click Setup.
    6. On the Connection tab, set the following parameters:
      • Printer Type: HP
      • IP Configuration: Leave unchecked.
      • Printer IP Address: Leave blank.
      • Printer IP Port: Leave blank.
      • NT Queue Name: RJSEMAIL
      • Browse Network Printers: Leave unchecked.
      • Parser Port Number: 2000
      • Server IP Address: 0.0.0.0
    7. On the IPDS Control tab, set the following parameters:
      • Printer Emulation: 3812
      • Default Code Page: 37
      • Code Page Version: 1
      • Dynamic Sharing: Leave unchecked.
      • Standby Time: 50
    8. On the Paper Control tab, set the following parameters:
      • Tray 1 Paper Type: Letter
      • Tray 2 Paper Type: Letter
      • Tray 3 Paper Type: Letter
      • Keep the rest of the Paper Control Options the same.
    9. On the Profile tab, set the following parameters:
      • PCL Language: PCL5
      • Horizontal Page Reduction: 75
      • Vertical Page Reduction: 75
      • Print All Pages as One Spool Job: Enable this option.
      • Command Windows: Leave unchecked.
      • Internal Trace: Leave unchecked.
    10. To save all settings, click OK.
    11. In the Unloaded configurations list, highlight the RJSEMAIL printer.
    12. Click the ===> button to start the configuration.
  4. Set up and start the service:
    1. In the Windows NT Control Panel, choose Services.
    2. Click the MPI Parser Service in the list to highlight it.
    3. Change the start-up type:
      1. Click Startup.
      2. In Startup Type, choose Automatic.
      3. Click OK.

        The MPI Parser Service will now start automatically each time you restart Windows NT.

    4. If the MPI Parser Service is not started, in Services, click Start.

Creating an iSeries Printer Device for the MPI Blue Server Software

  1. In the MPI Parser menu, choose Help and review the topic "Configure your AS/400 section in the MPI Parser."
  2. Using the help topic, create the appropriate printer definition.
  3. Use the following parameters:
    • Device Description Name: PRTRJSAFP
    • IP Port Number or Port: 2000
    • Remote Location: The static IP address for the PC.

      Note: If you don't know the IP address, on the DOS command line, type IPCONFIG and press Enter to display it.

Testing the iSeries Printer Device

  1. Vary the iSeries printer device:

    VRYCFG CFGOBJ(PRTRJSAFP) CFGTYPE(*DEV) STATUS(*ON) 

  2. Start the iSeries printer writer:

    STRPRTWTR DEV(PRTRJSAFP)                           

  3. Move a report to the PRTRJSAFP output queue and see if it prints.

    Note: You may need to respond to iSeries system messages, such as form change, with the iSeries QSYSOPR message queue.

  4. Check that the report printed correctly:
    • There should be a new file named C:\RJSAFP.PCL on the Windows NT PC.
    • The report should be removed from the PRTRJSAFP output queue, unless you put it in SAVE status.
