Problem:

When you create RTF document with RTF Report Converter and then try to open it in Microsoft Word, you get the error:

The document name or path is not valid. Try these suggestions. Check the file permissions for the document or drive. Use the File Open dialog box to locate the document.

Microsoft Word will either not open the document, or the document opens but is missing some data or pages.

Solution:

This problem occurs when RTF documents use brackets {  }  to delimit text in the files. Sometimes report data also contains brackets.

Prerequisites:

To resolve the problem:

  1. In RTF Report Converter, go to File > Settings.
  2. Check Replace unmatched bracket pairs.
  3. Click OK.

When RTF Report Converter converts documents, it will replace unmatched bracket characters {  } with braces instead [  ], and RTF files will open correctly in Microsoft Word.
