This topic describes how to install and configure Robot Network 10 or higher to work with a Robot Save 11 data center.
Attention: The configuration described below is not a standard Robot Network configuration where you can use Robot Network to process cross-system reactivity with Robot Schedule or message escalation with Robot Console. This is used strictly to set up the configuration files so that Robot Network can be used only with a Robot Save data center.
Before You Begin
Keep the following items in mind before you set up Robot Network and your Robot Save data center.
-
Robot Save must be at release 11.0 or higher. To use Robot Network with Robot Save, Robot Network host R10M00 or higher and/or node R10M00 or higher must be installed and configured on the IBM i servers that will be in the data center.
-
To display your current release and modification levels, type RBTSYSLIB/RSLVER from a command prompt and press Enter.
-
For successful network communications, Robot Network requires a fully qualified TCP/IP host name in the format of system_name.domain_name to be in the host table and/or the DNS server. You can use the command CFGTCP and options 10 and 12 to set up host names. For more information, contact your system administrator or Technical Support.
-
To set up Robot Network, you need to know the system names and IP addresses of your host and node systems.
Prerequisite IBM i Software
The following two tables show what software you must have installed on your IBM i server before you can use Robot Network. The first table shows what you need to use Robot Network 10 and the second table shows what you need to use Robot Network 11.
Minimum requirements for Robot Network 10:
OS Level |
Software Required |
Any* |
QSHELL - product option 30
CCA Cryptographic Service Provider, option 35
|
V7R1 |
Portable App Solutions Environment, product option 33
Java SE 6 32 bit - 5761JV1, option 11 or
J2SE 5.0 32 bit - 576JV1, option 8
|
* Robot Network 10 is supported for IBM i V7R1 and higher.
Minimum requirements for Robot Network 11:
OS Level |
Software Required |
Any* |
QSHELL - product option 30
Portable App Solutions Environment (PASE), option 33
|
V7R1 |
Java SE 6 32-bit 5761JV1, option 11 (recommended) or
Java SE 6 64-bit 5761JV1, option 12
|
* Robot Network 11 is supported for IBM i V7R1 and higher.
Setting Up Robot Network and Your Data Center
Robot Network needs to be installed and configured on the host system and any nodes you want included in the data center before you can set up Robot Network and your Robot Save data center. Follow these steps:
-
Install and configure the Robot Network host on the system that will be the host system. During the installation, a screen displays to help you configure the host system. You must know the system name and IP address of your host system.
-
After you have installed and configured the host, check to make sure that the following monitor jobs are active in the RBTSLEEPER subsystem: NETHOST, NETHOST1, NETHOST2, and NETHOST3. If they are not active, issue the following command:
RBTNETLIB/RBNSTRHOST
-
Install and configure Robot Network node on the systems that will be part of your Robot Save data center. During the installation, a screen displays to help you configure the node system. You must know the system name and IP address of your host and node systems.
-
After you have installed and configured the nodes, check to make sure that the following jobs are active: NETNODE, NETNODE1, and NETNODE2. If they are not active, issue the following command:
RBTNETNODE/RBNSTRNODE
-
Verify that your Robot Network systems are communicating properly by entering the following command on the host system and reviewing the job log:
RBTNETLIB/RBNPOLLSYS SYSTEM(*ALL)
-
