Error 0x0012 Opening Existing Report

 

Problem Statement:

When trying to open an existing report receives error.

"Error 0x0012 while initializing BDE"

The most likely cause is BDE not being found in directory specified by dll path

Solution:

Correct the DLLPATH and CONFIGFILE01 within the registry. Verify that the DLL PATH and CONFIGFILE01 is pointing to the BDE folder within the registry.
Note: You need to be LOCAL ADMINISTRATOR of the PC to perform the steps below.

Steps:

1. Go to: Start | Run |  and then type: REGEDIT
    
2. Go to the following path with in the registry:
   (Or do a FIND within REGEDIT on DLLPATH)

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE | Software | Borland | Database Engine 

3. DLLPATH and CONFIGFILE01 within the registry should be pointing to the same path.
    
4. Correct the BDE path to point only at the drive which has files in the Common Files folder.

EXAMPLE:
CONFIGFILE01 -> C:\Program Files\Common Files\Borland Shared\Bde\IDAPI32.CFG
DLLPATH -> C: \Program Files\ Common Files\Borland Shared\Bde
