To set up Email Report Server/400 to bounce emails off of a true internet SMTP host system:
- Set up TCP/IP routing:
- On a command line, type GO CFGTCP.
- Choose 2. Work with TCP/IP routes.
- Set up the *DFTROUTE routing entry to route TCP/IP traffic to the internet. If you need help setting up a *DFTROUTE IP routing entry, see your network administrator.
- Set up the iSeries to see a valid Internet DNS server:
- On a command line, type GO CFGTCP.
- Choose 12. Change TCP/IP domain information.
- In Domain name server Internet address, type a valid Internet DNS server IP address. If you need help setting up a DNS server entry, see your network administrator.
- Ping the internet host name from the iSeries command line:
PING smtp.earthlink.net
You will see a ping reply and the IP address of the server.
- Set the Email Report Server/400 SMTP host. The following example sets email to bounce off an Earthlink mail server:
RJSERS/ERSHOST OPTION(*SET) SMTPHOST('smtp.earthlink.net')
Email Report Server/400 can now route emails via your SMTP mail server DNS address.
