Prerequisites:
Run the installer to unzip all files to C:\Program Files\RJSPGP.
Generating a Public and Private Key File for Encrypting
PGP encrypting requires a public and a private key file. To generate your keys:
- Run C:\Program Files\RJSPGP\RJSPGPKeys.exe.
- Click New KeyRing.
- Click Generate a Key.
- On Step 1, keep the default values.
- On Step 2, enter your name and email address.
- On Step 3, enter a password for decrypting the files. You will provide this password to the recipient of the files.
Note: Make sure to write down or remember this password.
- On Step 4, the key is generated.
- Click Save keyring.
- Enter the following files:
- Public Key Ring: c:\Program Files\rjspgp\public.pkr
- Secret/Private Key Ring: c:\Program Files\rjspgp\secret.skr
- Click to save the key ring files.
Note: You will provide the secret.skr and public.pkr files to remote file recipients along with the password. Never send these directly with an encrypted file. Instead, provide them separately to the recipient.
Encrypting a File
- Run C:\Program Files\RJSPGP\RJSPGPFiles.exe.
- Click Protect an Existing File with PGP functionality and then click Next.
- Choose the Key Ring Files and click Next.
- Public Key Ring: c:\Program Files\rjspgp\public.pkr
- Secret/Private Key Ring: c:\Program Files\rjspgp\secret.skr
- Choose the file to encrypt and click Next.
- Check Encrypt source and then click Next.
- Check the key ring user and click Next.
- Choose the destination file and click Next.
- Click Finish.
You can now distribute the PGP file with the key files and password.
Decrypting a File
- Run C:\Program Files\RJSPGP\RJSPGPFiles.exe.
- Click Process a PGP Encrypted File and then click Next.
- Choose the Key Ring Files and click Next.
- Public Key Ring: c:\Program Files\rjspgp\public.pkr
- Secret/Private Key Ring: c:\Program Files\rjspgp\secret.skr
- Choose the PGP file to decrypt and click Next.
- When prompted, enter the password.
- Choose or enter the file name to decrypt the PGP file to and click Save.
- Click Finish.
The PGP file is decrypted, and you can view it.
